This picture is familiar territory for me. It is the Christus in the visitor's center at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. When I lived there, I would take a very short bus ride on my lunch hour, walk the spiraling incline up to the statue and sit in quiet contemplation. The statue depicts nail prints in the hands and feet of the resurrected Jesus. Now I had often wondered why tradition presents the Being of Jesus this way until I sat there and read Isaiah 49:14-16

But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

WOW!!! "graven" upon the palms of God?!!! The next time I saw that statue and the prints, I saw them as a symbol of myself--a personal message from the Holy One, that I am not forgotten.

What a blessing and a comfort that heart-knowing is; that as I practice zikr--La illaha illa 'Allahu", Allah also remembers me---
